THE BRIEF
1

The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Thermal Power Corporation to supply surplus coal starting Friday.

Having become self-reliant after relying previously on Coal India Limited, WBPDCL uses captive mines allotted in 2019-20 to produce more than its daily consumption of 60,000 tons.

3

The state power utility plans to sell 3.5 million tonnes of surplus coal to NTPC by March 2027 under provisions of the MMDR Act, 2021.
