The Union cabinet cleared a ₹1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System to install 2,500 AI-enabled cameras across 1,092 intersections and 1,029 locations in Delhi.
The system will monitor traffic violations, spot unhelmeted riders, identify hot-listed vehicles, and link with existing police camera networks through a central command centre.
Digital rights groups warned that the project lacks a data protection framework, expressing concerns over missing rules on data storage and access by private entities.
