The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry issued an order on August 13, 2026, setting a combined daily LPG production target of 63,810 tonnes for 21 refineries to build a domestic supply buffer.
Reliance Industries Ltd faces the largest quota, with its Jamnagar refinery required to produce up to 18,000 tonnes per day, while 18 public sector refineries are tasked with a combined 31,470 tonnes daily.
This framework aims to reduce reliance on imports, which accounted for 21.3 million tonnes of the 33.2 million tonnes consumed in the 2025-26 fiscal year, following disruptions caused by the West Asia conflict.
