Guernsey Targets 2030 for Hot Meals in Primary Schools

Guernsey Education President Paul Montague announced plans to introduce hot meals in the island's 12 mainstream primary schools by the next general election, with a target completion date before 2030.

The committee is currently evaluating various delivery models, including options for free meals for low-income households, drawing on lessons from Jersey, which implemented a similar programme in 2024.

Challenges identified by officials include the logistical difficulty of scaling up production and the structural requirements for installing kitchens within historic school buildings.
