The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 32 institutions as fake universities in its February 2026 list, prompting the Centre to direct states to initiate legal action.

Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar informed the Rajya Sabha that states have been requested to register FIRs against these entities for violating the UGC Act, 1956.
