Supreme Court to Quash FIRs Against Peaceful NEET-UG Student Protesters

The Supreme Court agreed on August 18, 2026, to invoke Article 142 to quash FIRs against students who participated in nationwide protests regarding NEET-UG exam paper leaks.

Chief Justice Surya Kant stated the court will protect peaceful protesters while distinguishing them from 2,873 identified individuals with serious criminal backgrounds, including charges of murder and rape.

The Bench plans to form a high-powered committee to examine protest-related issues and investigate allegations of police sexual molestation against women protesters during the July 20 crackdown.
