Sri Lanka's anti-graft commission arrested lawmaker Namal Rajapaksa on Friday, September 4, 2026, regarding a corruption investigation into a 2013 Airbus aircraft purchase deal.
The probe centers on allegations that the European manufacturer funneled part of the $2.3-billion deal into kickbacks for senior officials, including a reported $461,000 payment to the Rajapaksa family.
Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena, who previously alleged he paid bribes to Rajapaksa before retracting the statement, was found dead in May ahead of a scheduled rearrest.
