Centre to Re-examine UGC Equity Regulations Following Supreme Court Intervention

The Centre informed the Supreme Court it will form a special committee to re-examine the University Grants Commission's 2026 equity regulations for higher education.

The Supreme Court previously stayed the 2026 rules, labelling them "too sweeping," and directed that the 2012 framework remain in place during the interim.

Chief Justice Surya Kant urged that the well-being of students remain the focus, as the court adjourned the case for four weeks.
