China's top political advisory body removed General Zhao Zongqi from the CPPCC Standing Committee on August 26, following his command during the 2017 Doklam and 2020 Galwan clashes.
Zhao, who led the Western Theatre Command, was reportedly linked by US intelligence to the 2020 Galwan operation, which resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers.
The removal coincides with a broader purge of the PLA leadership, including the dismissal of Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from the Central Military Commission on August 28.
