Saima Wazed Resigns as WHO Regional Director for Southeast Asia Amid Fraud Allegations

Saima Wazed, daughter of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, resigned immediately as the World Health Organisation's regional director for Southeast Asia.

The resignation followed recommendations by member states to terminate her appointment amid ongoing fraud and forgery investigations by both the WHO and Bangladeshi authorities.

Ms Wazed, who assumed office in February 2024 for a five-year term, rejected the charges against her as politically motivated.
