FIFA has officially abandoned its plan to raise $4.2 billion by selling a 20 percent stake in a new event-management unit to private investors.
The proposal, which faced intense backlash from regional confederations including the Asian Football Confederation, was scrapped after FIFA President Gianni Infantino consulted with stakeholders.
AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa welcomed the reversal, emphasizing that future initiatives impacting global football must involve transparent consultation with member associations.
