Mahesh Kakde, Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, has been awarded the 2026 Ramanujan Prize for his contributions to algebraic number theory.
The award honors his fundamental work on non-commutative Iwasawa theory and research on the Gross-Stark and Brumer-Stark conjectures linked to Hilbert's 12th problem.
Jointly awarded by ICTP and IMU to young mathematicians from developing countries, Professor Kakde is the fifth Indian recipient of the honor.
