Supreme Court Restrains Teacher Appointments Without Prescribed Qualifications

The Supreme Court issued an interim order prohibiting the appointment or continuation of teachers in schools and colleges who lack qualifications mandated by the RTE, NCTE, and UGC Acts.

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant passed the order while hearing a PIL, Rajesh Chauhan vs Union of India, challenging schemes that allow provincialisation of teachers.

The Court will examine the constitutional validity of recruitment processes that permit entry into substantive government service without a fair, transparent, and competitive selection procedure.
