Italy Enacts Classroom Language Caps and Face Veil Ban

Italy’s government has decreed a 30% limit on students with limited Italian proficiency per classroom to improve integration and language learning.

The decree immediately bans face-covering veils, such as burqas and niqabs, in schools, though hijabs remain permitted.

Critics and educators argue the measure lacks sufficient funding and could force students to travel long distances if schools fail to meet the new standards.
