Ashton Friend, 20, avoided immediate jail time after being sentenced in the South Australian District Court over the May 2025 hit-and-run death of Samia Malik.
The court heard Malik, an international student, had been kneeling on an Adelaide road for four minutes before Friend's car struck her at approximately 11 pm.
Judge Anne Barnett sentenced Friend to a suspended term of one year, three months and 29 days with an eight-month non-parole period and a two-year good-behaviour bond.
