The Kerala Forest Department registered a case against the owner and mahout of an elephant named Cheriyaparambath Gopalan for allegedly failing to provide adequate food and care.
An inspection by forest officials and veterinary doctors in Ekarool near Unnikulam revealed severe malnutrition, chain-related leg injuries, and failure to provide the prescribed diet recorded in its care register.
The elephant was placed under the care of social forestry officials and veterinary doctors for supervision, while the owner claimed the animal had been receiving medical treatment for weakness.
