Former TMC legislator Nirmal Ghosh was arrested in Odisha on August 13, 2026, for his alleged role in the hasty cremation of the 2024 RG Kar rape-murder victim.
The arrest follows a fresh inquiry ordered by CM Suvendu Adhikari into allegations that Ghosh and two other leaders forcibly cremated the body without family consent.
Ghosh, who had been absconding since July 11, faces charges of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
