Suryakumar Yadav Reflects on Unexpected T20I Captaincy Removal

Suryakumar Yadav expressed shock after being dropped from India's T20I squad in June, revealing he had been preparing to lead the team through the 2028 Olympics and T20 World Cup.

Under his captaincy, India won 42 of 50 completed T20Is and successfully defended the T20 World Cup title on home soil in March 2026, remaining unbeaten in series for two years.

Selectors replaced him with Shreyas Iyer, citing a need to reassess the team's direction for the next two-year cycle following Suryakumar's dip in form, which included 270 runs in the 2026 IPL.
