Bombay High Court Convicts Journalist Tarun Tejpal in 2013 Rape Case

The Bombay High Court's Goa bench has convicted journalist Tarun Tejpal for the 2013 rape of a former colleague, overturning a 2021 acquittal by a sessions court.

Tejpal, 62, was found guilty under section 376(2)(f) of the Indian Penal Code, which carries a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life imprisonment.

The court's decision follows an appeal by the Goa government against the 2021 order, with Tejpal stating he intends to challenge the conviction in a higher court.
