The Keralam Assembly referred the Keralam Senior Citizens (Care and Protection) Bill, 2026, to the Finance Subject Committee for further scrutiny on Tuesday.
Piloted by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, the Bill aims to promote healthy and active ageing, register and regulate care centres, and protect the rights and social security of the elderly.
During discussions, the Chief Minister noted that the state's elderly population is expected to reach double the national average by 2036, driven by demographic changes and out-migration.
