Amityville School District Cancels Varsity Football Season

The Amityville School District announced the cancellation of its varsity football season on Monday, citing an unsafe number of player injuries.

Superintendent Gina Talbert confirmed the district will focus resources on a junior varsity schedule to allow younger players to develop fundamentals safely.

The decision affects three senior athletes, whom the district is working to support through leadership roles, following similar cancellations at Port Jefferson and Holy Trinity high schools.
