Persistent downpours trigger seven new landslips and uproot trees in The Nilgiris

Persistent downpours over The Nilgiris triggered seven new landslips and uprooted 15 trees in the 24 hours ending at 7 a.m. on Monday, further disrupting normal life and road connectivity.

The district recorded a total rainfall of 734.5 mm with a district average of 23.69 mm, while three people suffered injuries in rain-related mishaps and three huts were partially damaged.

District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru announced a holiday for all schools in Udhagamandalam, Coonoor, Kotagiri, and Kundah taluks, and diverted traffic via Kotagiri following road damage near Burliar.
