
India's 2026 southwest monsoon concluded with 759.4 mm of rainfall, marking a 12.6% deficit below the normal 868.6 mm and the lowest seasonal rainfall since 2015.
East and northeast India experienced their driest monsoon since 1901 with a 25.6% deficit, while the southern peninsula recorded its fourth lowest rainfall at 24.3% below normal.
The IMD reported that maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be above normal across most of the country in October as the monsoon withdraws.
