A first-year student at IIIT Ranchi died by suicide in his hostel room on Saturday night, prompting a police investigation and post-mortem examination.
Police reported preliminary indications pointing towards examination stress, while students launched an agitation demanding better campus medical facilities and counseling.
The National Human Rights Commission took cognisance of the incident and will examine administrative negligence and medical delays.
