The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a total penalty of Rs 20 lakh on nine digital platforms, including Zepto, BookMyShow, and IndiGo, for using deceptive 'dark patterns'.
These platforms were found guilty of manipulating user interfaces to trick consumers into making unintended purchases or subscriptions, violating consumer protection guidelines.
The government has warned that further non-compliance will lead to stricter enforcement actions, as it seeks to curb unethical digital marketing practices across the e-commerce sector.
