Tennessee prisons commissioner Frank Strada is resigning this month following the failed execution of death row inmate Christa Pike using two doses of pentobarbital.
Governor Bill Lee announced an independent review led by former U.S. Attorney Ed Stanton and halted any new executions in the state.
Pike's legal team stated she remained unconscious on a ventilator at a hospital following the botched lethal injection procedure on Wednesday.
