The Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to replace the public prosecutor in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence trial against Ashish Mishra within two weeks.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant acted on an application alleging the incumbent prosecutor gave up crucial eyewitnesses and the presiding judge issued non-bailable warrants.
The court forwarded the application to the Allahabad High Court chief justice to look into allegations against the judicial officer and submit a report in a sealed cover.
