Sony Confirms End of Physical Game Discs by January 2028

Sony will cease the production of physical game discs for new PlayStation titles starting in January 2028, citing a shift toward a fully digital ecosystem.

The company reported that 82% of its game sales are already digital downloads, leading executives to conclude that the transition will not negatively impact long-term revenue.

Despite a Change.org petition gathering over 352,000 signatures in opposition, Sony plans to allow retailers to sell boxed editions containing digital download codes after the 2028 deadline.
