A team of leading Ebola scientists will travel to Abuja, Nigeria, to investigate how a female patient contracted the Bundibugyo species of Ebola without visiting the Congo epicentre.
Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya stated the investigation will explore potential links to the first case in Kenya after genomic sequencing showed closely related viruses.
The outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has caused nearly 10,000 cases and over 4,600 deaths, spreading to Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda.
