New Mexico Court Orders Meta to Pay $567 Million

A New Mexico judge ordered Meta to pay $567 million following a trial that found the company liable for harming children's mental health through its Facebook and Instagram platforms.

Of the total penalty, $420 million is designated for youth treatment services, while the remainder covers prevention, awareness, and screening costs over the next five years.

The ruling follows a March jury verdict that found Meta violated state consumer protection laws, and the company has confirmed it will appeal the judge's latest decision.
