Tom Cruise's new film Digger earned an estimated $3.4 million on its opening day and roughly $8 million over its North American opening weekend.
The opening figures mark a 19-year low for Tom Cruise, falling behind Anne Hathaway's Verity which earned $33 million over the weekend.
Digger has a reported production budget of $125 million and requires $300 million to recoup its costs.
