Typhoon Dolphin Batters Japan Before Heading Toward China

Typhoon Dolphin struck Okinawa, Japan, injuring five people and cutting power to 14,000 buildings, before tracking toward China with maximum sustained winds of 162km/h as of Saturday.

China has declared a level-three emergency, suspending 162 ferry routes in Zhejiang and ordering the closure of schools and ports in Ningbo ahead of an expected landfall between Sunday and Monday.

The storm is forecast to bring over 600mm of rain to parts of eastern China through August 12, while Taiwan has already cancelled 63 international flights due to the severe weather.
