Deadly Candida Auris Fungus Confirmed in 27 US States

The CDC reported 3,437 cases of the deadly fungal infection Candida auris across 27 US states as of the week ending July 25, 2026.

California recorded the highest number of infections with 873 cases, followed by Texas with 433 and Tennessee with 283, marking a decrease from the 4,290 cases reported during the same period last year.

While healthy individuals are at low risk, the fungus poses a severe threat to hospital patients and those with weakened immune systems, potentially causing sepsis and organ failure.
