Indian Student Arrested in Germany for Murder of Girlfriend

Varun Batchigari, a 20-year-old Indian national, was arrested in Germany for the alleged first-degree murder of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Julissa Rubi Salazar, in Tucson, Arizona.

Salazar was found dead with signs of trauma in her apartment on August 6, after which Batchigari fled the U.S. via Houston to Berlin.

Batchigari, a former University of Arizona student, had a prior open criminal case for assault filed on May 26 and was reportedly facing immigration status issues.
