The captain of the Air India Phuket-Delhi flight, which experienced a 300-foot altitude drop, has tested positive for marijuana in a mandatory confirmatory dope test.
The incident occurred during the flight, prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ground the pilot and initiate a formal investigation into the safety breach.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has taken over the probe to determine if the pilot's impairment contributed to the rare flight-control event reported mid-air.
