Study Links GLP-1 Weight Loss Drugs to Hair Loss Risk

A study published in The BMJ indicates that users of GLP-1 receptor agonists face a 37% to 68% higher risk of non-scarring hair loss compared to those on other diabetes medications.

Researchers noted that the absolute risk remains small, at approximately three to nine cases per 1,000 people annually, and is likely linked to rapid weight loss rather than the drugs themselves.

Dermatologists advise patients not to discontinue treatment without medical consultation, as hair shedding is often a temporary side effect of nutritional deficiencies or physical stress during weight reduction.
