Centre Notifies Appointments of Eight New High Court Chief Justices

President Droupadi Murmu appointed eight High Court judges as Chief Justices across various states on September 5, 2026, following consultations with the Chief Justice of India.

Justice Sanjay Kumar Agarwal of the Chhattisgarh High Court will head the Rajasthan High Court, replacing Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma amid ongoing conduct controversies.

Other appointments include Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao for Patna, Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge for Calcutta, and Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati for the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
