A Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus driver was killed when his vehicle was struck by a landslide at Burliyar on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor ghat road on Friday night.

The Nilgiris district administration reported that Burliyar recorded 250 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending Saturday morning, categorised as extremely heavy rainfall.

Over 300 stranded individuals, including Kerala schoolchildren on a tour, were evacuated by rescue teams, while authorities closed the ghat section until further notice.
