Ebola Outbreak Spreads to Sixth Province in DR Congo

The Africa CDC warned that the Bundibugyo virus Ebola outbreak has reached a sixth province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a recent death reported in Bas-Uélé.

As of August 10, 2026, the Congolese government recorded 4,449 confirmed cases and 2,061 deaths, with the outbreak potentially lasting over a year if containment efforts fail.

The Bundibugyo strain, which has a historical case fatality rate between 30% and 50%, currently lacks approved vaccines or specific treatments, complicating the response in affected regions.
