The Indian rupee appreciated 23 paise to 96.65 against the U.S. dollar in early trade at the interbank foreign exchange market.
The recovery was supported by a softening dollar index near 102 levels and a decline in Brent crude prices to $103.39 per barrel.
Persistent geopolitical pressures and heavy foreign institutional investor outflows of ₹12,943.58 crore continued to weigh on the domestic unit.
