Surgeons at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram removed a 1-kg hair mass from the stomach and small intestine of a nine-year-old girl during a rare surgical procedure.
The patient had been admitted with persistent abdominal pain and vomiting, with scans confirming severe intestinal obstruction caused by Rapunzel syndrome.
Hospital authorities noted that the condition involves a trichobezoar extending from the stomach into the small intestine, with fewer than 100 cases reported worldwide.
