Self-taught Bengali filmmaker Anuparna Roy returned to the Venice Film Festival with her sophomore feature Lovers in the Blue Night, competing in the Orizzonti section.
Roy made history last year as the first Indian to win the Orizzonti Best Director award for her debut feature Songs of the Forgotten Trees.
The director draws cinematic and art design inspiration from Asian cinema greats like Tsai Ming-liang and Wong Kar-wai to explore the lives of migrants on Mumbai's margins.
