Mangrove cover in Keralam registered an overall increase over the past decade, according to a new study by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute.
Presented at an international symposium in Kochi, the study compared satellite images from 2017 and 2026 across coastal districts, showing a rise in vegetation despite historical losses over the past five decades.
Researchers emphasized that satellite monitoring effectively tracks mangrove recovery, aiding conservation efforts to protect coastlines from storm surges and preserve marine biodiversity.
