Mumbai Police have officially commenced the first-ever trial in absentia against Hafiz Saeed and five other Pakistani nationals accused of orchestrating the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
The legal proceedings are being conducted under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which allows for the prosecution of fugitives who have evaded Indian jurisdiction for over 17 years.
This move marks a significant shift in India's counter-terrorism strategy, aiming to secure international legal recognition of the accused's guilt despite their continued protection within Pakistan.
