
South African jurist Navanethem Navi Pillay won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for promoting peace and international law.
The 85-year-old former ICC judge was praised by the Norwegian Nobel Committee for holding states and national leaders accountable.
Born in apartheid-era South Africa in 1941, Pillay was the first woman to start a law practice in Natal in 1967.
