ICMR Detects All Four Dengue Strains Across Eight States

A nationwide surveillance study by ICMR-NIV and NCVBDC confirmed the simultaneous circulation of all four dengue virus serotypes, DENV-1 through DENV-4, across eight Indian states.

Researchers identified that the co-circulation of these four strains increases the risk of severe secondary infections, necessitating a tetravalent vaccine strategy for future immunization.

The study provides critical data for policymakers to map regional transmission patterns and improve vector-control measures ahead of the country's first dengue vaccine rollout.
