India secured 17 medals, including 4 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze, on the opening day of the U-23 Commonwealth Fencing Championship in Lagos, Nigeria.
Indian fencers reached the podium in all 6 individual events across Sabre, Foil, and Epee disciplines, with gold medals won by Nikhil Wagh, Joys Ashita, Prachi Lohan, and Jeferlin.
The championship began on Sunday, and the Indian contingent aims to build on this performance in the remaining events scheduled throughout the competition.
