A major fire broke out at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited refinery in the Gajuwaka industrial area of Visakhapatnam late on Monday night.
The flames erupted at the sulphur pitch tank of the refinery's Residue Upgradation Facility, sending thick clouds of black smoke into the surrounding locality.
Refinery internal firefighting teams brought the fire under control within an hour, and police confirmed there were no casualties or injuries.
