US Imposes New Forced Labour Tariffs on 60 Economies

The Trump administration has imposed new tariffs on 60 trading partners, including India, effective July 24, citing concerns over the use of forced labour.

India secured a 10 percent tariff rate by amending its Foreign Trade Policy to ban forced labour imports, while 43 other nations face a higher 12.5 percent rate.

The Indian Ministry of Commerce stated the new measures will impact approximately 55 percent of India's exports to the United States, excluding products already covered under Section 232.
