Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta announced its closure on Friday after operating under severe state pressure and repression since 2022.
Editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov stated that Russian special services forced the editorial team to end its work and enter a kill zone.
Founded in 1993, the Nobel Prize-winning publication was known for reporting on human rights abuses and maintaining criticism of the Kremlin.
